1. Still Using Stamps
The Royal Mail would like businesses to stop using stamps and to start franking their mail. This is why they have been increasing the franking discounts over the last couple of years.

Also, since pricing in proportion was introduced, many firms find themselves over-stamping items. All in all, even for companies with light volumes of mail, franking is a great way to cut costs.

2. Getting Hit by Hidden Charges
Some franking machine suppliers hide their costs by charging their customers for credit top-ups and other services. A lot of customers are surprised to find £12 on their phone bill everytime they top up their franking credit.

3. High Volumes of Mail
If you send out large mailshots (posts of 1000 letters or more) then you could use the Royal Mail's Cleanmail service and receive additional discounts of up to 18%. By sorting your outgoing mail and presenting it to the Royal Mail in their provided trays you will save the Royal Mail time and money. In return the Royal Mail will give you additional postal discounts. For large postal volumes these discounts can save you a lot of money.

4. Using DX Mail
Many companies who use the DX postal system can save thousands of pounds by keeping an accurate count of their DX items and cost.
There are now DX machines on the market that can print the DX sender details and date stamp the envelopes. While doing so they keep an accurate record of your DX items and cost.
By keeping track of your DX usage you can save a lot on your mailroom costs.
